Aside from the Lewistown Trails, our city trail system, public trails in our area are on Forest Service or BLM land. Backpacking opportunities abound in the Snowies and Little Belts, where there are large parcels of public land. You can get more information on these trail areas by contacting the Lewistown BLM office (406-538-1900) or U.S. Forest Service office in Stanford (406-566-2292).
Weather can change quickly in Montana, so make sure you take all necessary precautions and have proper clothing and gear. Most hikes do not have water sources on them, so be sure to take plenty.
